All of my grandparents were gone, except for one, when I was born. My last grandmother died when I was 6 and I really don't remember her. My kids were fortunate to have their grandfathers until they were ages 10, 7 and 6. One grandmother passed away when they were 20, 17 and 16. And one grandmother is still around, although her memory is failing. But they got to experience what it's like to have grandparents. And I know for a fact my parents were nicer to my kids than they were to me.

But as of last Thursday, I am a grandpa. And my former wife, a grandma. And so far it's a pretty cool journey. I hope that God allows all involved good health so that we have many years to be a part of this child's life. And try to bring him up in the best way possible. And hope that this world will still be a great place for him. I hope to see the day when he becomes a parent, his mother is the grandma and I'm a great-grandpa. But one day at time. It's time now to take in all of this and enjoy watching this one grow.

Kayden John, we love you.
