Christmas and New Year's are long gone, Easter and Memorial Day are still far off in the distance, and Valentine's Day isn't everyone's cup of tea, but there is a holiday between the winter and summer seasons that I think the 21-plus portion of the population can happily get behind - National Margarita Day!

Celebrated on February 22, National Margarita Day has so many perks! There is no stressing over finding the perfect gift to thrill your friends and family, no frustration to be had at your lack of innate wrapping ability, no heavy decorations to pull from storage and display, and aside from the cost of the beverage (cheaper if you make your own) and a potential cab fare, is relatively low cost! Sounds great, and delicious, to me!

If National Margarita Day is something you are interested in celebrating, you can show support to your favorite local establishment, or if you are the DIY type, you can whip up your own! Check out a recipe modified from liqour.com:

Ingredients
.75 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
1 oz. triple sec
1.5 oz. tequila

Kosher salt (optional) on rim

Mix and shake well, pour over ice.

While there seems to be some debate on the drink's origins and who deserves credit for the cocktail, it appears to have been created in the 1930s or 1940s and quickly grew in popularity. Frozen or on the rocks, I'll raise a glass to celebrate National Margarita Day today!
