The Minnesota Department of Transportation announces that plans are now in place for the demolition of the Steele County Road 31 bridge over I-35 starting Monday night, August 28. As a result, I-35 will be closing at 8PM that night and remain closed until 8AM Tuesday, August 29.

The detours will be as follows - those traveling north on I-35 will be detouring off to Highway 30 at the Ellendale exit and then travel east to County 45 and head north to Highway 14 and then east back onto the freeway. Southbound traffic on I-35 will be detoured off to Steele County 7 and then to Steele County 30 to County 4 and east through Hope and back to the interstate.

Motorists on Highway 14 who normally use the County Road 45 on the south end of town will not be able to exit onto the county road during those hours of 8PM to 8AM Tuesday. As a result, eastbound traffic on Highway 14 should use the Highway 218 exit and return to Highway 14 west, exit at Austin Road. Westbound traffic should exit Highway 14 at Austin Road.

The replacement of the County 31 bridge is expected to take several weeks.
