The 47th annual Renaissance Festival is on near Shakopee. It's happening weekends and Labor Day through October 1. Hours are 9AM to 7PM rain or shine.

There is lots of daily entertainment, including of course jousting. The Minnesota Renaissance Festival has been the starting point for many nationally known performers. Puke and Snot made their debut in 1974 under the names of “Mouldy and Wart.” The magic and comedy act of Penn and Teller got their start at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Now The Danger Committee, who began as The Dew Drop Jugglers, has risen to the top and has been seen on America’s Got Talent!

There are games and rides, lots and lots of delicious food and more. You may want to plan to go more than once, because you can't do it all in one day.

Some of this year's theme weekends are:

  • Once Upon a Time – Aug. 26 & 27
  • International Bazaar – Sept. 2, 3, & 4
  • Wine, Chocolate & Romance - Sept. 9 & 10
  • Pets & Pirates - Sept. 16 & 17
  • Shamrocks & Shenanigans - Sept. 23 & 24
  • Festival Friday – Sept. 29
  • Oktoberfest – Sept. 30 &  Oct. 1
