Hoops Heaven is Friday in Rochester

The Hiawatha Valley League vs. Three Rivers Conference Showdown basketball event was kept pretty much intact after being canceled last Saturday. It has been rescheduled for this Friday at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.

I was told by organizers a couple of the teams had to drop out due to various circumstances. The St. Charles boys and Byron girls are not able to participate Friday.

The St. Charles Saints were originally scheduled to play the Lake CIty Tigers in a rematch of last year's section final thriller between the two teams and both are playing well to start this season. Evidently they couldn't find a boys team to replace St. Charles because Lake City is not among the teams scheduled to play on Friday.

The Pine Island girls agreed to replace Byron and will play Dover-Eyota in the arena at 3:15PM.

There were originally 14 games planned and now there are 13.

KDHL will be broadcasting the Kenyon-Wanamingo vs. Winona Cotter game scheduled to begin at 12:30PM in the more intimate auditorium and the Goodhue vs. Caledonia game with a scheduled 6:45PM start in the arena.

Both games should be exciting, with the point guards in the Knights vs. Ramblers game among the best around, and both Caledonia and Goodhue among the state rankings in their respective classes.

The cost for the entire day is $7.50 and includes entrance into both venues.
