Saturday was doubleheader day in the Hiawatha Valley Conference and the Cannon Falls Bombers and Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights swept their opponents to remain unbeaten in league play.

In Wamamingo the Knights won the first game 6-2 in a low hitting contest. Kenyon-Wanamingo had just three hits and Pine Island four in the game.

Gavin Roosen improved his record to 3-1 with the victory on the hill while allowing no earned runs, striking out five and walking three.

Luke Rechtzigel had two of the hits, including a double.

Aaron Gillard took the tough loss for Pine Island while striking out five, walking three and allowing three hits.

In the second game, Ethan Benda pitched Kenyon-Wanamingo to an 8-5 eight-inning win, going the distance. Benda struck out three and walked two and the Knights out-hit Pine Island 10-7.

It was a sloppy game, with the Panthers committing four errors and the Knights three.

Matt Lien started the game for Pine Island and walked six while striking out nine. Matt Huus came in the eighth inning and took the loss with three runs scoring, two of them earned on three hits. Huus struck out one and walked one batter.

Drew Lohmeyer, Gillard and Lien all had two hits for the Panthers.

With the wins Kenyon-Wanamingo is 5-0 in the conference and 8-1 overall.

The Knights will be on Power96 Radio on Tuesday night when they tangle with the Triton Cobras. The game is earlier than previously scheduled, with a 4:30PM first pitch.

Cannon Falls also got a sweep Saturday over the Byron Bears at John Burch Park in Cannon Falls.

The Bombers did not allow a run all day with 6-0 and 11-0 wins.

Hunter Reinardy threw a five-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Tanner Carlson tallied two hits, including a double, and Jake Christenson had two hits, a double and two RBI. Michael Monson also had two RBI.

In the second game, which lasted five innings, Max Bowen got the win while throwing a one hitter. He struck out two and walked one.

Carlton Lindow had a homer, a double and two RBI and Jason Traynor collected two hits and two RBI.

The Bombers are 7-0 in the H-V-L and 7-1 overall.
