Faribault's annual Heritage Days Celebration is June 14-17 this year, with Central Park again the center of the event.

We will visit with some representatives of the Heritage Days Board on AM Minnesota at 9:30AM.

Board members are:

  • Travis McColley, Chairman
  • Ed Little, Vice-Chairman
  • Laura McColley, Parade Coordinator
  • Paul Penansky, Historian
  • Troy Temple
  • Kari Casper, Craft Fair Coordinator
  • Sue Jensen

At least those people are listed on the Faribault Heritage Celebration website: www.faribaultheritagedays.com.

I'm not sure who is stopping by today, but I know we will talk about the grand marshal for this year's parade, Father Henry Doyle. Doyle has been such a blessing since arriving at Shattuck Academy in Faribault. He has been very involved in the community, volunteering his time and talents for various local efforts.

When my mom was at Pleasantview Estates he would send her a birthday card every year and that meant so much to her. He sends one to me too, and I'm sure many of you have received one.

He didn't know my mom from the woman across town but it really did mean a lot. A simple gesture can go so far.

It reminds me of a saying I've carried with me over the years and it might be the person who originated it is unknown. "There is always someone who cares for you without your knowledge."
