Although it was partly cloudy on Saturday morning, hundreds of people lined the streets of Owatonna to enjoy the Wenger Marching Band Festival. There were 13 marching bands who performed, including our very own Owatonna Huskies.

All of the bands performed for the judges at different points on the parade route, with the first time being right in front of Trinity Church on Lincoln. That is where I was sitting, and I have no idea how the judges could pick a winner, they were all so good.

The marching bands came from all over the southern part of the state, and while they all have one thing in common, they are marching bands, their take on the music selections, and costumes really showed a creative flair.

The bands had something for everyone, from a tribute to WWII, to"Phantom of the Opera." From "The Wizard of Oz" to Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain." A samurai warrior to marathon runners, and the music and costumes fit so well. I don't know that I can pick a favorite, however, I really liked the "Night on Bald Mountain" and "Phantom of the Opera."

If you missed the parade this year, I would highly recommend going next year.
