‘Goonies’ Sequel Is Happening Because Goonies Never Say Die
If Hollywood can count on anything, it’s nostalgia, which is why it shouldn’t be a surprise that there’s a ‘Goonies’ sequel on the way — yes, even 28 years later. Director Richard Donner is planning to reunite the original cast for a sequel to the cult classic film because Goonies never say die and all that.
According to Variety, Donner told TMZ that he’s working on getting the old ‘Goonies’ gang back together for a sequel. When asked if he was going to make another comic book movie anytime soon, Donner replied, “If you call ‘Goonies’ a comic book. We’re doing a sequel.”
The original film starred Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen, and Martha Plimpton and told the story of a group of kids who, while trying to save their homes from being demolished, discover a treasure map and go on a wild adventure to find the long-lost loot belonging to a pirate named One-Eyed Willie.
Star Sean Astin was previously asked about a sequel last year, and told IGN “I’m 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it.” It seems he was right. But there’s no word as of yet if the original stars will merely make cameo appearances or if they’ll be going on a whole new adventure as adults.
What do you guys think? Are you ready for another ‘Goonies’ adventure?
