The latest Minnesota Basketball News State rankings for boys basketball did not even have the Goodhue Wildcats ranked in the top 20.

The coaches in Class A dubbed them the third seed after their convincing victory over the then-second-ranked Spring Grove Lions in the section final last week.

The top five seeds are made and then they have a blind draw for the three opponents of the top three seeds.

Goodhue (22-9) will play at 5PM Thursday at Williams Arena against unranked Lake Park-Audubon (26-4).

The Raiders had a tough start to their season, with their four losses coming in their first eight games. They have not lost since and defeated ninth-ranked Battle Lake in the Section 6A championship game 67-58.

All losses were to quality opponents.

Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton is in the Class 2A state bracket and is 24-5, Fosston finished 19-9, Fertile-Beltrami 15-12, and the Waubun Bombers were 21-5.

Lake Park-Audubon avenged their eight-point loss to Waubun in the sections with a 13-point win.

When I spoke with Goodhue head coach Matt Halvorson after the win over Spring Grove last week, he said his team would probably not receive a seed due to the nine losses on their record.

Halverson's team does have the most losses in the Class A Tournament, but obviously that did not matter to the other coaches. Most of those losses came when the team was not totally healthy.

If Goodhue wins, they will play in the semifinals at 2PM Friday at Target Center.

If they make it to the semifinals and then lose, the third-place game would be played at Concordia University in St. Paul on Saturday morning at 9:30AM.
