The Goodhue Wildcat boys basketball team did what the girls team did the previous week: ended the season of the Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals.

The Cardinals hung with the No. 4 Class A state-ranked team for most of the first half, but the Wildcats enjoyed a 35-27 lead at the half.

Goodhue started the second half with a run that the Cardinals could never really recover from and the final score was 69-48.

Goodhue executed very well and shot the lights out of the Rochester Mayo Civic Center Auditorium, finishing 11 of 16 from three-point range.

Five Wildcats finished in double figures while just two Cardinals enjoyed that kind of success.

Bethlehem Academy senior Brendan Trump finished his stellar career with 22 points, including three three-point baskets, and junior Avery Hunt had 14 points.

Goodhue was led by seniors Jacob Mcnamara and Ben Opsahl with 17 points each. Seniors Taylor Buck and Lucas Thomforde had 11 points each and freshman Sam Opsahl tallied 10 points.

The Cardinals end their season 16-12 and Goodhue is 27-3 and will play in the section title game at 8PM Thursday against Rushford-Peterson.

The Trojans won the best game by far of the day in the Auditorium on Saturday.

Sophomore Landon Skalet came in for Trojans star guard Noah Carlson after he fouled out and hit a three-point basket with 5.1 seconds left in the game in a 46-43 thriller over No. 7-ranked Spring Grove.

The Trojans forced 17 Spring Grove turnovers. It's Carlson who usually gets the turnovers with his incredible quickness and athleticism.

Goodhue typically does not dribble too much and they definitely don't want to against Carlson and Rushford-Peterson. The 6-foot-1 senior roams the court in search of poking away the ball.

Bethlehem Academy head coach Eric Hildebrandt was proud of the performance of his young team and thanked seniors Brendan Trump, Cole Caron and Hunter Dienst for their leadership this season.

Hildebrandt noted his team improved throughout the season and credited Goodhue's defense and execution saying, "They are a great team."
