There are a number of misconceptions about plastic surgery and we will tackle those on today's KDHL AM Minnesota program at 9:30 a.m.  Dr. Michael Gross will be our guest from the Mayo Clinic.  He performs cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to men and women in the Faribault and Albert Lea areas.

In doing some research for the show I found that body sculpting and non-invasive fat procedures are booming.  The fastest growing procedure according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2017 Plastic Surgeries Report is cellulite treatments.  They were up 20 percent.

The report says there were nearly 1.8 million cosmetic surgical procedures conducted in 2017.  The top 5 were:

  1. Breast Augmentation
  2. Liposuction
  3. Nose Reshaping
  4. Eyelid Surgery
  5. Tummy Tuck

The report also notes there were 15.7 million minimally invasive procedures performed in 2017.  The top 5 procedures were:

  • Botulinum Toxin Type A
  • Soft Tissue Fillers
  • Chemical Peel
  • Laser Hair Removal
  • Microdermabrasion

A dramatic spike (11%) in breast reduction surgeries were also experienced.

We will find out if these procedures are covered by insurance.  If for example fat removal benefits the health of the patient as well as the looks.
