The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating an accident Saturday that claimed the life of an Eden Prairie man and seriously injured another in his vehicle.

According to the report, around 11:45AM Saturday on Interstate 35 southbound at mile post 57, a Chevy Avalanche driven by 40-year-old Chad Gibson rear-ended a Kia Sorento driven by Scott Connell of Eden Prairie. Gibson told the state patrol officer that he looked down and then looked up and saw traffic stopped. He then hit the Kia at highway speeds, which knocked it into the back end of a Subaru being driven by 41-year-old Molly Curley of St. Louis, Mo. Her vehicle then spun into a Ford Edge being driven by Alexa Kirby of Waterloo, Iowa. Connell was killed in the accident and Edda Connell, who was a passenger in the Kia, was seriously injured. None of the other drivers or passengers involved sustained injuries, according to the State Patrol report.

The Faribault Police Department and Rice County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
