Shakopee, MN (KROC AM News) - It’s a sad beginning to the new school year for some students, staff and parents. Former Zumbrota-Mazeppa Superintendent Gary Anger has died.

Shakopee Public Schools made the announcement on its website, saying he died Sunday after battling cancer.

Anger began working in Shakopee in July 2017.

According to the website, Anger helped the Zumbrota-Mazeppa district become one of the highest rated rural school districts in Minnesota. Among his accomplishments at Zumbrota-Mazeppa was helping it become the first district to institute WILD (Weather Impacted Learning Days) in lieu of snow days. The district was also instrumental in passing E-Learning Days legislation in the 2017 legislative session.

Here is the district’s message:

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Superintendent Gary Anger has passed away after a battle with cancer.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Anger family. Gary brought joy to all those who knew him. Our Shakopee Public Schools staff, teachers and the entire Shakopee community will miss him. Gary started in the district in July 2017.

“Superintendent Anger has forever changed ISD 720,” said Scott Swanson, Shakopee School Board Chair. “We had precious little time to fully experience the leadership and humanity that Gary had to offer. As we chart the course for the days and weeks ahead, I ask that all district staff, parents, students and friends keep Gary’s family in your thoughts and prayers and Gary’s spirit in your hearts. The best way to honor his memory is to serve and care for one another as he demonstrated.”

We will share funeral arrangements when they become available.
