Play Ball Minnesota announced the 2016 Mr. Baseball during a banquet Sunday night in Minneapolis. Forest Lake senior outfielder Matt Walner received the honor.

Other finalists included Ryan Wolfe of Wabasha-Kellogg High School, Isaac Collins of Maple Grove High School, Michael Busch of Simley, Drew Hmielewski of Marshall, Nick Hanson of Prior Lake and Nick Emanuel of Esko.

Bethel University head baseball coach and former major leaguer Brian Raabe was the keynote speaker at the banquet. Raabe is the current ambassador for Play Ball Minnesota Baseball. The New Ulm native played with the Twins, Seattle Mariners and Colorado Rockies, primarily in minors. He was a six-time minor league All-Star.

Raabe played baseball at the University of Minnesota where he was All-American and All- Big Ten. He also played a season in Japan.

Raabe has been the head coach at Bethel University since 2012 and was the 2015 MIAC Coach of the Year for leading the Royals to their first conference championship.
