A representative of the Rice County Sheriff's Department Boat Patrol and DNR Conservation Officer Luke Belgard are in studio today to discuss this weekend's fishing opener.

About a half-million people are expected to take part in the opener.

Did you know starting this boating season, anyone found guilty of violating the state's AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) laws will not only have to pay the required fines, but will also have to complete mandatory "Clean In Clean Out" training.

It's a short course, according to the DNR, and takes about 20 minutes to complete online.

I'm sure our guests will give us more details, but I know life jackets are required and must be of adequate size, and functioning shape and condition.

If you have a watercraft with fuel you need a fire extinguisher.

Tune in at 9:30AM and be informed before you hit the water this weekend for the Minnesota Fishing Opener. Text your questions to (507) 838-5233.

If that time doesn't work, go to our YouTube channel and watch at your leisure.
