If you have heard some of the FFA interviews on KDHL, you probably noticed I always ask FFA members about any judging contests they may have been at. Technically they are called Career Development Events. Most just call them judging contests.

This is a picture of the Regional Poultry Contest. Organizing these contests takes a lot of time for the FFA adviser at the host school. A lot of volunteers also help set up these contests. In addition to the Poultry contest, there are many others: Agronomy, General livestock, Agronomy, Wool, Lamb, Homesite, Wildlife, Small Animal, Horticulture, Dairy cattle, Floriculture, Crops, and many others. The idea is to let FFA members explore as many areas as possible. Ultimately, they may end up with a career in that area.

Teams consist of four members. A good performance earns the right to judge at the state FFA Convention this spring. Win the state and you will find yourself judging at the national FFA Convention in Louisville this fall.
