Update: Around 11:30AM Monday, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Dakota County Sheriff responded to a two-vehicle accident at Highway 56 and 280th Street, just northeast of Randolph. Two people were killed and three others were injured.

According to the State Patrol, a northbound SUV passed one vehicle and cut back to the northbound lane at the last second. A semi driven by 71-year-old James Sathre of Faribault was southbound behind a minivan. The minivan moved to right shoulder and slammed on its brakes to avoid the SUV. The semi hit the brakes, jackknifed and went into the northbound lanes and struck the SUV on the front driver's side.

Killed in the accident was the driver of the SUV, 31-year-old Jason Calderara of Cannon Falls, and his 1-year-old daughter, Melody. Seriously injured were 26-year-old Elizabeth Calderara and 9-year-old Nicholas Calderara. Sathre suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
