Farmers around Minnesota along with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture will be celebrating Farm to School Month with cafeteria tours. One of those tours will be at the Northfield Middle School on Thursday October 5, 2017 at 11:00 am. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture's AGRI Farm to School and Farm to Early Care and Education Grants provide some funding to schools to serve more locally grown Minnesota Foods.

Each of the schools on the Farm to School Tour did receive a Minnesota Department of Agriculture AGRI Farm to School or Farm to Early Care and Education Grant. Schools and early care and education organizations can use the grant money to buy equipment to prepare and serve more locally grown foods. While it might seem simple to access vegetables or meat for example from a local farm for the school lunch program, you have to be aware of food safety and regulations. That is why it is important to have the Minnesota Department of Agriculture involved in a program like this.
