On Tuesday afternoon, I had an appointment with my FSA office in Owatonna. Mine was rather simple compared to many farmers. I had my Production Report from my Crop Insurance Agent, so it was easy to determine whether I could raise my program corn and soybean yields by updating. However, I had a very high corn base going back to when I was a dairy farmer. Updating my base acres would have decreased my corn base.

Most think a higher corn base is beneficial, so I did not update my base acres. Remember, the deadline for updating your yield and base acres is Friday, Feb. 27. I also made my selection between ARC County and PLC. The deadline to do that is March 31. The whole process took about 10 minutes and was just two pages to fill out!
