Meg Moynihan who is a Senior Advisor, Strategy and Innovation with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture was my guest on Tuesday's AM Minnesota. With low commodity prices for 4 years in a row there is a lot of financial stress on farm families. So, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture has set up a Farm and Rural Helpline. That number is toll free 833-600-2670. If you call someone will answer 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Meg said professional counselors are the ones that will answer the call. Many times it helps just to have someone to talk to. In addition they know of other resources that are available to help each situation. Maybe a financial counselors a lawyer to help with a possible foreclosure, or state and federal programs that can help. Of course there is no charge for the Farm and Rural Helpline. If you wish you do not even have to give them your name or you can use an alias.
