Faribault Voters Elect Two New City Council Members
One incumbent and two challengers were elected by Faribault voters Tuesday to the City Council. Incumbent Jana Viscomi received 3,727 votes, Thomas Spooner 2,501 and Peter Van Sluis 2,423 votes in the seven person field. Long time Council member Kay Duchene decided not to attempt to keep a seat. Incumbent John Rowan was edged out by 17 votes after garnering 2,406 votes.
The other results were Brian Peterson 2,389, Mona Paczkowski 1,606 and Gerald Irwin 1,080. Six people also ran for four seats on the Faribault Public School Board. Carolyn Treadway led the pack with 5,043 votes cast in her favor, Chad Wolff received 5,002 John Bellingham 4,626 votes. and Courtney Cavellier 4,357. The remainder of the results included Richard Olson with 4,052 and Donald Novak 3,186.
Rice County Commission District 3 and District 4 offices had no races with District 3 incumbent Dave Miller and Steve Underdahl running unopposed. Steve Bauer decided not to attempt keeping his District 4 seat.
Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn and Rice County Attorney John Fossum also ran unopposed.
The voter turnout was very high across Rice County but no official figures will be available until the votes are canvassed.
Unofficial KDHL totals in Faribault were a 72.2 percent turnout in the four precincts. Northfield turnout was 75.9 percent and the rural areas of Rice County had 75.5 percent of registered voters cast ballots.
