The Faribault Falcons finished in sixth place today at the Class A Minnesota State Girls Swimming and Diving Meet on the University of Minnesota campus.

The Northfield Gators were 14th and the Mankato West Scarlets 17th out of the Big Nine.

Visitation of Mendota Heights won their fourth straight state title while amassing 261 points. Breck School was second with 211. Faribault had 129.5 and Northfield finished with 66 points. Last year Faribault finished 11th with 85.5 points.

A number of Falcons earned All-State status by finishing in the top eight in their event.

Senior divers Sophia Steinberg and Taryn Longshore finished sixth and seventh, respectively, to earn All-State designation. Sophomore Saylor Hawkins of Breck School captured the championship with a final score of 433.75. Steinberg had 351.35 and Longshore 339.40.

Junior Megan Gehrke placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle and seventh in the 100-yard freestyle for All-State honors there and was also on a couple of relays that did well.

Junior Breanna Bresnahan was second in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Northfield senior Sophia Nevin winning the title. Bresnahan was also 13th in the 50-yard freestyle for Honorable Mention All-State honors and was on the same relays with Gehrke.

Eighth-grader Abby Larson finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle for All-State designation

The Falcon 200-yard freestyle relay was fourth, earning All-State, and the 400-yard freestyle relay finished 15th for Honorable Mention All-State honors.

In addition to Larson, Gehrke and Bresnahan, junior Malia Stone was involved in the relays.

Northfield's 400 freestyle relay finished 13th for Honorable Mention All-State and the 200-yard freestyle relay team placed seventh for All-State honors. The 200 freestyle relay was composed of eighth-grader Ellen Varley, freshman Alice Zhang and seniors Kalli Schetnan and Sophie Bernstorf. The 400 freestyle relay members were freshmen Signe and Tatum Hauck, Zhang and Schetnan.

On top of Nevin's state title for Northfield, the senior achieved All-State by finishing eighth in the 200-yard individual medley. Classmate Carrin Baker was 16th for Honorable Mention All-State in the same event.

Baker also finished 15th in the 100-yard butterfly for Honorable Mention All-State honors.
