The Faribault Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee sponsors a program each year called Adopt-a-Third Grade. During the winter, Kevin Estrem goes into classrooms to talk with students about agriculture. Then early in the spring, students are bused out to a farm. Students from Jefferson, Roosevelt and the STEM schools participated in the program. In addition, Medford heard about the program and asked if their third grade could be adopted, too.

Even though we live in a rural community, most of the students have no connection to a farm or have never been on one. They have no understanding of how their food ends up in the grocery store. The Faribault Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee raises the money to cover busing and other costs. This is a picture of Jefferson third-graders at Ron and Kay Keller's farm just east of Faribault. It was cold and windy outside, and Keller pointed out that is why pigs are raised in a nice warm barn. Also notice how clean and healthy the pigs are.
