The top ranked Class 3A Faribault Falcon softball teams is the top seed in the Section 2AAA Tournament which begins Thursday in North Mankato.  The Section Tournament games are all played at Caswell Park, site of the State Tournament June 7 and 8.  Tournament Director Todd Waterbury told KDHL/POWER 96 the reason it took awhile before the bracket was released, there were a couple of tiebreakers.  The Falcons play at 5:00 p.m. against the Marshall Tigers.  Win or lose the teams play another game at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night.

This section is absolutely loaded with five of the teams in the state rankings.  If the Falcons win their opener they would face either #4 seed Waconia or #3 seed Mankato East.  The Falcons have not played Waconia this year but edged Mankato East in Faribault in extra innings when they played.  The #4 and #5 seeds were on of those tiebreakers because they split when playing head to head.  #2 seed New Ulm and #3 seed Mankato West necessitated a tiebreaker also and New Ulm defeated the Scarlets when they played against each other.

#2 seed New Ulm plays #7 Hutchinson and #3 seed Mankato West tangles with #6 Worthington.

After Thursday games those still alive go back to Caswell Park on Saturday and play.  The winner's bracket game at 2:00 p.m. with the winner of that contest waiting until next Thursday to play for the championship and having to be defeated twice not to advance to the State Tournament.

Loser's bracket games would be at Noon and 2:00 p.m. Saturday with the two remaining teams playing 5:00 p.m. Tuesday for the right to play in the title game on Thursday.
