It was the same story for the Faribault Lakers on Wednesday night - unable to score they were defeated by St. Benedict 4-3 in New Prague.

The loss ended Faribault's season with no wins in the playoffs and ends their state tournament appearances streak at two.

The other elimination bracket game ended with Shakopee defeating St. Patrick 8-3. Prior Lake defeated Union Hill 3-2 to clinch a state tournament trip.

The St. Benedict Saints go to Union Hill at 7:30PM Friday. New Market and Shakopee will play Friday in New Prague.

The Winona Chiefs and Wanamingo Jacks hooked up in Region 5C action in Dundas on Wednesday night.

Wanamingo took advantage of six Winona errors in an 8-2 win in the opening region game. Winona took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with some clutch two-out hitting off Alex Roosen.

After a one-out walk was issued, the second out was recorded and then cleanup hitter Hunter Kruse smashed an elevated 1-2 count pitch for an RBI double and Owen Burnikel added an RBI single.

The Jacks responded right away scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth while collecting just two hits. Peder Sviggum led off the inning with a triple and scored when the throw to third sailed out of the ballpark and Sviggum was awarded home.

Sam Roosen followed with a single. After a pop out, Aaron Holmes was walked and Sam Roosen took off for third base during a Kirby Vandewalker at-bat and also ended up scoring on an error.

Brady Anfinson reached base on an error. Holmes was wild pitched to third base and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jayson Traynor.

No. 9 hitter Andrew Anfinson also reached on an error and was thrown out trying to steal second to end the inning. There were five Winona errors in the inning.

Wanamingo scored two runs in the fifth inning with two outs. Sam Roosen and Alex Roosen clubbed back-to-back doubles and Aaron Holmes had an RBI single.

Jayson Traynor led off the sixth inning with a single and would later score on another Winona error and that's all the Jacks would need.

Alex Roosen threw 86 pitches, 58 for strikes, and struck out 11 batters in his six innings of work. His only walk scored.

Noah "China" Grove threw three innings of scoreless relief and did not allow a hit with a walk and three strikeouts.
