Faribault junior Paul Sadergaski was the 100-yard butterfly state champion in Class A and placed fifth in the 50 freestyle to capture All-State honors in both events.

The state meet in the Aquatics Center on the University of Minnesota campus saw some records fall: four in Class A and four in Class AA.

Sadergaski's 34 points gave Faribault a 21st-place finish in Class A.

Last year the Falcons placed third in the state, but did not have as many qualifiers this year.

The only other event to qualify from Faribault was the 200 medley relay team and they did not get past the preliminaries, just missing the cut to swim in the finals.

Sadergaski shattered the Faribault High School record in the preliminaries and then the next day crushed his own record again. In the finals, his time of 50.04 was impressive, with his next challenger finishing in 50.47.

The all-time state record in the event is 48.20 in 1995 by Martin Ziellinski of Bloomington Jefferson. The Class A best is 49.35 in 2012 by Paul Fair of Monticello, and the national mark was set in 2013 by Joeseph Schooling of Bolles, Florida, at 45.52.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Sadergaski had a time of 21.41. The winning time was 20.91, turned in by Grand Rapids senior Matt Allison. All four of those finishing ahead of Sadergaski in the event are seniors and only two of the top eight were not seniors.

St. Thomas Academy swam away with the Class A title, outdistancing Breck Blake by nearly 200 points 430-239.

The Big Nine did well with Austin sixth, Mankato West seventh, Red Wing 10th, Winona 15th, Mankato East 19th, Northfield 19th and Faribault 21st.

Eden Prairie is the Class AA state champion with 335 points and Minnetonka placed second with 262.5.

Big Nine competitors did well there also, with Rochester Century placing ninth and Rochester John Marshall 20th. Lakeville South was 17th and Lakeville North 19th.

Northfield junior diver Jack Cuddy was second with 436.90 points to garner All-State status. The diving champion was Simley senior Nathan Stone with 462.65 points.

Northfield senior Will Clark placed 11th in the 100-yard freestyle to earn honorable mention All-State status.

Erik Lundstrom was 14th in the 500-yard freestyle, and the junior from Northfield also earned honorable mention All-State.

Northfield's 400-yard freestyle relay team of seniors Will Clark, Baily Chell and Bejamin "Skip" Varley and junior Erik Lundstrom finished 14th, good enough for All-State honorable mention.
