Faribault Police Chief Andy Bohlen explained at Tuesday night's Faribault City Council meeting that the Shuda family has provided a number of officers to the city.

The explanation was given prior to swearing in the latest Shuda to join the Faribault Police force, Michael Shuda.

Michael's dad is retired Faribault Police Sergeant Al Shuda and his older brother Matt has been a Faribault police officer since 2014.

Bohlen said public service is completely in the family, with his mom working for Rice County also.

The Faribault police chief said the newest Shuda to join the force started as a police explorer in 2010 and logged a number of hours of community service in that capacity before working part time while attending school to obtain his law enforcement degree.

Acting City Administrator Tim Murray administered the oath of office before Michael's dad pinned his son's badge on his uniform.

The Council Chambers then erupted in applause as Officer Shuda shook the hand of each council member.
