Faribault native Jeff Elstad is going to be the new superintendent of the Owatonna Public School District. Elstad has been the superintendent in Byron since 2012 and previously worked in the Owatonna district.

Elstad did some coaching in Benson, Minn., before taking an administrative position in Owatonna.

Elstad told interviewers for the Owatonna position he was most proud of having two referendums passed while in Byron and beginning the one-to-one iPad initiative.

The Faribault High School graduate has lived in Owatonna for the past 16 years and was the special education coordinator when he was first employed by the district. He went on to become the assistant principal at Owatonna High School before taking the Byron superintendent position.

Elstad has degrees from St. Cloud State University and Minnesota State University-Mankato. He has also worked in Rochester and New Prague school districts in the past.

Elstad will start his new job on July 1, 2017.
