Faribault Mayor John Jasinski and incumbent state Reps. John Petersburg and Brian Daniels were selected to represent the GOP in the November election.

Jasinski has been mayor of Faribault for eight years and says it's time to take his leadership and business experience to the Minnesota Senate in District 24.

Jasinski touts his government and business experiences over the past 23 years and says he will use those experiences to make Minnesota, "a better place to live, work, raise a family and retire."

Jasinski is a Faribault High School graduate and attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and Mankato State University after serving in the U.S. Navy.

After serving on the Faribault City Planning Commission, Jasinski was elected to the City Council in 1997 and then became mayor in 2009 and was re-elected in 2012.

His candidacy for the state Senate means the mayoral race will be wide open in Faribault this fall, too.

Jasinski will be challenging incumbent state DFL Sen. Vicki Jensen of Owatonna.

During the district endorsing convention at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna over the weekend, delegates voted 63 to 29 with one abstention to select the Faribault mayor as the GOP candidate.

During the March 1 caucuses, Jasinski said he wanted to reform welfare in Minnesota to, "bring about accountability, work and responsibility."

Other goals include improving Minnesota's roads and bridges, creating more jobs in greater Minnesota, and making the tax system more competitive for businesses so they don't leave the state.

Rep. Brian Daniels of Faribault will square off against former DFL state Rep. Patti Fritz in the fall.

Daniels unseated Fritz during the last election for the District 24B seat.

Daniels sits on the Agriculture Finance, Aging and Long-Term Care Policy, Higher Education Policy and Finance and Legacy Funding Finance Committees.

Petersburg is from Waseca and is attempting to be elected to his second term in the Minnesota House. He has farmed north of Claremont, lived in Waseca and worked in Owatonna and says those experiences have developed his philosophies.

Petersburg wants to, "help grow small businesses, protect businesses from unnecessary tax increases and provide fair and equitable school funding."

The Waseca Republican will have a rematch with 2014 DFL candidate Bev Cashman.

Cashman has taught for more than four decades in public and private schools, was named Owatonna Businesswoman of the Year, and is in the Little Theatre of Owatonna Hall of Fame.

Cashman says, "I'll be a strong voice for families, schools, homeowners, farmers and small businesses."
