Yesterday in Dunn County, Wisconsin court a 34-year-old Faribault man, Shawn Goplen, received his arraignment date in a case in which he is suspected of attempted homicide. Goplen and Kari Blank, of Ellsworth WI, will be arraigned on Friday, July 13.

Goplen is being charged with possession of a firearm-convicted of a felony, substantial battery-intending bodily harm, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, and misdemeanor intentionally pointing a firearm at a person. All of the charges that were filed we filed with repeater status.

Blank is being charged with felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor person duty to aid/report a crime.

Goplen and Blank are being accused of shooting the 48-year-old rural Colfax, WI victim in the leg, May 27, after Goplen accused the victim of taking his methamphetamine. The victim was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

According to the Dunn County News, "after the shooting, the couple left in two vehicles: and an area-wide manhunt was launched for the pair."

Then on May 30, Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies pursued a red Volkswagen Jetta that was stolen from Woodbury, Minn. The driver and passenger were suspected to be Goplen and Blank. The chase ended when the car crossed into Pepin County, Wisconsin.

The following day, an off-duty Barron County Sheriff’s deputy reported that the stolen Jetta had been seen at the Dollar General store in Rice Lake. A woman was seen going into the store, while a man stayed with the car. They were later identified as Goplen and Blank.

As deputies set up around the store, Goplen took off in the car. The chase led more than a mile into the county before returning to the Dollar General parking lot. Both Goplen and Blank were taken into custody and booked into the Dunn County Jail.
