The Faribault Lakers missed the State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament last year after successive runs in 2014 and 2015.

They are back this year and will begin play Saturday in Green Isle against the Gibbon Reds at 1:00 p.m.

Giving you some information on the Reds they play in the same league as traditional powerhouses New Ulm and Sleepy Eye and according to their website statistics have a record of 15-18 going into the game with Faribault.

The Lakers have 25 wins.

The Reds team batting average is .270 and their team ERA is 5.65 with an opponent batting average of .242.

The three draftee pitchers were from Essig, Hanska and Sleepy Eye and I could not find any statistics on their team page on the Minnesota Baseball Association website.

Gibbon has 17 home runs this season and 75 extra base hits with 24 stolen bases

The Faribault Lakers team batting average is .254 and team ERA 3.14 with an opponent batting average of .236.

Matt Lane is 8-0 on the season with 5 saves.  In 68.2 innings has allowed 44 hits, 14 runs, 10 earned runs, has walked 16 and struck out 88 batters with 4 hit batsmen.

Blake Langerud is the team's leading hitter in average with a .368 batting average.  Joe Grote leads the team in hits with 40.  Langerud has 39 and Matt Lane 30 hits.

Grote leads the team in RBI with 27 and Lane has 23.
