The Faribault Falcon girls hockey team picked up a 5-3 victory over Albert Lea at home Tuesday to remain unbeaten in the Big Nine.

Both teams were 0 for 2 on the power play.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Payton Putrah and Alexis Ferris. The Ferris goal was unassisted and Allyson McCoshen and Megan Johnstad had assists on the Putrah goal.

Hayley Lang scored Faribault's second-period goal with assists by Putrah and Madison Beaupre.

In the third period, Ferris would bury the puck again with an assist to Olivia Williamson and Beaupre finished the Faribault scoring unassisted.

Camryn Salmonsen got the win in net with 26 saves.

Faribault out-shot Albert Lea at the Faribault Ice Arena 34-29.

The Falcon boys traveled to Albert Lea and came home after a hard-fought 4-3 loss despite a nearly 20-shot advantage on the night.

Faribault had 44 shots on goal and Albert Lea 25.

The Falcons were one for six on the power play and the Tigers one for seven in the penalty-filled game.

Albert Lea's Bergen Lundak had two first-period and two third-period goals to lead his team to the win.

Albert Lea took a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Faribault's Patrick Markman scored an unassisted goal on the power play in the second period.

Brett Kelly and Ryan Teske scored the Falcons' other goals.

Goalie Adam Johannsen had 21 saves for Faribault.

In other Big Nine boys hockey, Rochester Mayo downed Red Wing 4-2, Mankato West beat crosstown rival Mankato East 8-2; in nonconference games South St. Paul nipped Rochester Century 4-3 and Bloomington Kennedy skated past Northfield 4-2.

In other Big Nine girls hockey, Mankato East and Mankato West had a 1-1 overtime tie, Mayo nipped Austin 5-4; and in nonconference games Red Wing downed Orono 4-0 and Rochester Century blanked Waseca 5-0 while Wayzata had their way with John Marshall 6-3.

Others girls games: Eagan 10 Rosemount 0, Eastview 6 Lakeville North 1, Prior Lake 5 Apple Valley 2, Lakeville South 8 Burnsville 0, Shakopee 5 Farmington 2.
