The Faribault Falcons Girls Hockey team is the #2 seed in the Section 1 Class A Tournament which begins this week.  The Falcons won't have to play Wednesday when the tournament begins.  Neither will top seed Rochester Lourdes/Dover-Eyota.  Faribault Head Coach Ali Miller stopped by KFC Saturday for the Faribault Coaches Show and hoped her team would not have to face Austin because they've already played enough.

#4 seed Austin hosts #5 seed Albert Lea with the winner playing at Rochester Recreation Center Saturday at 5:30 p.m.  The Falcons will face either #3 seed Red Wing or #6 seed Waseca in the other semi-final Saturday at the Faribault Ice Arena.  Drop of the puck is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Section 1A Championship game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Valentines Day at Four Seasons Arena in Owatonna.

Faribault defeated Red Wing on November 15 at home 5-0 in their only meeting of the season and downed Waseca on November 13 in Waseca 6-0.  The Wingers and Blue Jays played November 24 in Waseca and Red Wing won 7-1.

Red Wing is the defending Section Champion.  They are 7-16-2 with 2.32 goals per game and give up 3.96 goals per contest.  The Wingers have scored 13 power play goals with a 17 percent power play.  They have allowed 16 power play goals and have a 74 percent penalty kill.  Red Wing has 1 short handed goal and allowed just one

The Wingers have been shut out 7 times this season.

Waseca is 7-16-1 with 2.33 goals per game and have allowed 4.67.  The Blue Jays have 8 power play goals, 14 percent power play.  They have allowed 23 power play goals, penalty kill 76 percent.  Waseca has 4 shorthanded goals and allowed 7.

The Blue Jays have been blanked 4 times this season.

The Falcons are 18-6, finished second in the Big Nine.  They have tallied 12 power play goals with a 18 percent power play and allowed 12 power play goals, penalty kill is 84 percent.  The Falcons have scored 10 shorthanded goals and allowed 2 shorthanded.

Falcons Junior Olivia Williamson finished second in the state with 39 goals tied with junior Hannah Corneliusen of Warroad.  Senior Kelsey King of Elk River led the state with 42 goals.  King has committed to play at Minnesota State next year.  Williamson was 6th in points with 60.

Senior Kate Boland of Northfield finished 7th in the state in assists with 30 and has committed to play next year at Bemidji State.

Section 1 Class AA has a play-in game at Graham Arena Monday at 7:00 p.m. between #8 seed Rochester Mayo and #9 seed Rochester John Marshall.  The winner goes to #1 Farmington Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.  #2 seed Lakeville North hosts #7 Rochester Century at Ames Arena in Lakeville.

#3 seed Dodge County hosts #6 Owatonna and #4 seed and Big 9 Conference Champion Northfield has Lakeville South come to their place.  The semi-finals are Saturday with the title game 7:30 p.m. Valentines Day at Four Seasons Arena in Owatonna.
