The Faribault Falcon girls hockey team cruised to a 5-1 win over the Mankato East Cougars in Mankato Thursday night.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game were senior goalie Camryn Salmonsen with 26 saves, sophomore Olivia Williamson with a goal and three assists and senior Allyson McCoshen with a goal and assist in the Big Nine Conference game.

It looked like it was going to be a scoreless first period until sophomore Haley Lang (6) connected with just 1:11 to go in the period.  Her goal was assisted by Williamson (5) and McCoshen (4).

The Falcons took a stranglehold on the game with three second period goals to take a 4-0 lead going into the final period at All Seasons Arena.

McCoshen (5) scored assisted by Kayli Burkhartzmeyer (4) and Williamson (6).

Rylie Starkson (3) connected with help from Abby Lake (1) and Emily Wilder (2).

Sophomore Tegan Herrley got her first goal of the season assisted by Williamson (7).

Williamson (9) scored 3:57 into the third period to pretty much put the game away.

The Cougars only goal came on a breakaway in the third period by Madison Davis (4), assisted by Hanna Helms (2).

Shots on goal were 35 for Faribault 11-14-10 and 27 for Mankato East 7-13-7.

The Falcons continued to struggle on the power play going 0 for 5 in the game.

Going into the game their power play was 10 percent.

The Cougars were 0 for 4 on the power play and have also been struggling, going into the game with the power play successful 7.7 percent of the time.

Junior Mankato East goalie Andrea Schreiber came into the game with a GAA of 2.59 and save percentage of 91.4 and finished the game with 30 saves.

Salmonsen had a GAA of 3.06 and save percentage of 90.4 percent.

Faribault is 4-4 overall and 3-2 in Big Nine action.

Mankato East drops to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.

The Falcons host Albert Lea at 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Ironically Mankato East won the boys game in Faribault 5-1.
