Freshman Olivia Williamson had a hat trick to lead the Faribault Falcons to an 8-5 win over the Rochester Mayo Spartans at the Faribault Ice Arena on Tuesday night.

Williamson scored two of her goals in the first period to give her team a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.

On Williamson's first goal, she skated into the Mayo zone around a couple of Spartans and went right between two Mayo players to score her third goal of the season.

Junior Allyson McCoshen notched her second assist of the season on the goal at the 2:47 mark. It was a power play goal.

Less than two minutes later (4:36), Williamson scored again on a nice feed from senior co-captain Maddie Drevlow.

Mayo junior Brooke Leone got them on the board at 12:26 with an assist from Brooke Haskins and it was 2-1 Faribault at the first Faribault Foods Intermission of the game.

Twenty-two seconds into the second period, junior defenseman Eryn Fjelsted scored her third goal of the season with assists to Haskins and Leone and the score was tied at 2, but not for long.

Seven seconds later Falcon freshman Haley Lang tallied an unassisted goal.

At 6:38 Fjelsted scored again for Rochester with an assist to Leone to tie the game.

Lang scored her fourth goal of the year with an assist to senior co-captain Alexis Ferris on a beautiful pass from one side of the net to the other for a textbook score. It was Faribault 4, Mayo 3 during the second Faribualt Foods Intermission.

Mayo tied the game again on a junior Megan Adair goal assisted by eighth-grader Devynn Priest and junior Elena Freund.

The Falcons scored the next goal on a power play when Alexis Ferris smacked home a goal with assists to McCoshen and freshman Abby Goodwin at 8:11.

Mayo tied the game at 5 with a Priest goal assisted by junior Maddi Lutz.

Williamson then registered her hat trick at 13:52 of the third period on an unassisted goal, which proved to be the game winner.

The final two goals were scored with Mayo's goalie pulled. Sophomore Ellie Knutson had her second goal of the season assisted by Williamson at 16:55 and Ferris scored at 16:27 with another assist to McCoshen.

Rochester Mayo outshot Faribault 31-28 for the game with a 10-6 advantage in the first period and 13-11 advantage in the third. The Falcons got more shots on net in the second period 11-8.

Six penalties were called in the game, three on Mayo and three on the Falcons.
