The Faribault Falcon girls hockey team rolled to a 6-1 win over the Mankato East Cougars at the Faribault Ice Arena on Thursday night.

The Falcons showed good energy just two days after their first home loss of the season to Red Wing in overtime.

Faribault led 5-1 after two periods and outshot the Cougars 33-29.

The Falcons gained two points and pull into a tie with Northfield and Owatonna for third place behind Rochester John Marshall and Red Wng.

They trail Red Wing by four points and John Marshall by six even though the win was their 13th in the conference and only John Marshall has more (14).

With just two games left for Faribault they won't be able to catch John Marshall or Red Wing.

The Falcons head to Albert Lea on Thursday and finish their season at home against Owatonna on Saturday, January 30.  Both are two-point games.

Red Wing closes out their season Thursday at Mankato West for a four-point game, and if they win and John Marshall defeats Austin in their conference finale in Rochester on Thursday, then they would tie for the Big Nine title.

They could be tied with Northfield because the Raiders have two four-point games remaining against Austin and Mankato East.

Owatonna has a pair of two-point games remaining and the most points they could achieve is 32. If Faribault wins out they would finish with 30 points.

If the Falcons win out they would have 15 conference wins. If the Rockets win their last game they would have 15 and if Red Wing wins their last conference contest they would have nine Big Nine wins. If Northfield wins out they would have 12 conference wins and if Owatonna wins out they would have 13 conference victories.

In other Big Nine Conference girls hockey Thursday, Owatonna defeated Mankato West 1-0, Northfield cruised past Rochester Century 5-1, John Marshall blanked Albert Lea 4-0, Rochester Mayo skated over Austin 6-2 and in a non-conference game Red Wing defeated Totino-Grace 4-2.
