The Faribault Falcon girls basketball team lost their home opener to the Austin Packers on Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 18 at the half and Faribault led 29-25 with about seven minutes to go in regulation.

Austin closed the game on a 18-2 run to secure the victory.

Faribault finished the game two of 14 from three-point range and had just five assists.  They also turned the ball over 21 times and had 19 rebounds.

Senior Ellery Akemann was the only Falcon in double figures with 13.

Faribault hosts Rochester Century on Friday.

In other Big Nine girls basketball Tuesday night: Red Wing defeated Century 71-60, Rochester John Marshall edged Mankato East 64-63 in overtime, Northfield crushed Albert Lea 65-23.

In Hiawatha Valley League nonconference games, Byron beat Kenyon-Wanamingo in the Castle 61-45, Waseca edged Rochester Lourdes 61-58, Blooming Prairie got by Triton 43-38, Plainview-Elgin-Millville dominated Hayfield 73-47, Cannon Falls defeated Minneapolis Patrick Henry 42-35.
