The Faribault Falcon girls basketball team will have a home game to open their playoffs Tuesday. Faribault is in Section 2 Class AAA.

The Falcons received the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed Marshall Tigers on Tuesday at 7PM in Nomeland Gym.

Faribault finished their regular season with a 14-12 mark and Marshall is 13-13, so the matchup may be closer than most No. 3 vs. No. 6 seed contests.

The Waseca Bluejays (20-6) are the top seed and host Mankato East (8-18). No. 2 seed New Ulm (21-5) entertains Worthington (16-8). No. 4 seed Jordan (15-11) goes up against No. 5 Mankato West (10-16).

I always say when you accomplish double-digit wins in a season you have a good team, and all but one team in the section has achieved that win mark.

Five of the eight teams also have winning records, so this could be a very interesting section tournament.

The semifinals are Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. If Faribault wins, they play at 7:45PM against the New Ulm/Worthington victor.

In Section 1 Class AAA, defending champion Winona got the top spot and will host Albert Lea on Wednesday at 7PM. No. 2 seed Kasson-Mantorville sees Stewartville come to their gym. No. 3 seed Northfield hosts No. 6 Austin. No. 4 seed Red Wing plays No. 5 Byron. The semifinals are in Rochester on Saturday at 1PM and 2:45PM.

In Section 1 Class AAAA, Lakeville North is the top seed and hosts Rochester Century at 7PM Wednesday. No. 2 seed Rochester Mayo entertains No. 7 Rochester John Marshall. No. 3 seed New Prague faces No. 6 Lakeville South. No. 4 seed Owatonna hosts No. 5 Farmington. The semifinals are Saturday at 6:30PM and 8:15PM in Rochester.
