Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst reminds us with Autumn comes yard cleaning and yard waste needs to be disposed of properly.

When I was a kid growing up in Spring Valley, Minnesota everybody in the neighborhood burned their leaves and the smoke filled the air a number of days in the fall.

Chief Dienst points out now it is illegal to burn any yard waste, including leaves, garden waste and grass clippings and you can be ticketed for doing so.

He says yard waste is to be composted.  The city compost site is located at 214 NE 14th Street.

The compost site is available free of charge to residents of the City of Faribault and is open seasonally.

Hours of operation are:

  • Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Chief Dienst says to check for updates about the fall closing date you can call the city's information hotline at 507-333-0390.
