Last year in the section playoffs the Falcons defeated the Spartans 20-14. The Spartans came to Bruce Smith Field in Faribault with payback on their mind Saturday as the Spartans defeated the Falcons 50-21.

The Falcons got the ball first and with 9:28 to go in the first quarter, Falcon quarterback Kade Hart connected with senior Nathan Worrall on a 25-yard touchdown pass and junior Eric Gannon kicked the extra point to make it 7-0. Then with 6:54 to go, Spartan quarterback Trajan Grimsrud handed off to junior Ray Motley for a 22-yard touchdown run, Jake McCabe kicked the extra point and that made it 7-7.

In the second quarter the Spartans dominated. With 11:41 to go Grimsrud handed off to senior Greg Henry. Henry scored from 18 yards out. The kick was not good and the score was 13-7 Spartans. The Falcons were unable to move the ball on their next series and Gannon was sacked in the end zone on a punt, so the Spartans got more points to make it 15-7. One play later Grimsrud threw a 40-yard pass to Mitchell McCarty and went to him again for the two-point conversion to make it 23-7. The Falcons were moving the ball when the Spartans stripped the ball from Felipe Ramierz. On the next play Grimsrud handed off to Henry for a 36-yard touchdown run. McCabe's kick was no good and the score at the half was 30-7 in favor of the Spartans.

In the third quarter, the Falcons held off the Spartans, got the ball and Ramierz scored with 8:07 left. Hart went to Win Hunter for the two-point conversion and it was now 30-15. The Falcons were able to score again with 3:01 left on another 5-yard run from Ramierz. the extra point was not good and the score was now 30-21 Spartans.

Grimsrud threw a 71-yard touchdown pass to Henry. The extra point was no good and it was 36-21.

In the fourth quarter, Grimsrud and Henry each scored again for the Spartans and the kicks were good to make the final score 50-21.

The Falcons will travel to Red Wing next Friday and Spartans will make the short trip to Rochester Century.
