Faribault Falcon Softball Falls to Mayo in 17 Innings

It was dark when the game completed at North Alexander Park on Tuesday night between the Faribault Falcons and Rochester Mayo Spartans.

The score was 1-1 heading into extra innings and stayed that way until Mayo erupted for five runs in the top of the 17th inning.

Falcon freshman McKayla Armbruster struck out 19 batters and did not walk a single Spartan while scattering 16 hits in her 16-plus innings of work. Sophomore Claire Drentlaw finished the game for Faribault.

The Falcons had 10 hits in the game but just could not score. They certainly had their chances. Actually, both teams had their chances to end the game sooner but the fans sure got their money's worth.

Faribault lead-off hitter Lauren O'Neil led her team's hitting attack with three hits, Drentlaw had three hits and Armbruster two.

Both teams had three errors in the game.

Matt Houglum went the distance pitching for K-W to pick up his sixth win against no losses. He fanned six and walked three. Gavin Roosen had two hits and Jake Whipple an RBI double. Luke Rechtzigel added an RBI double.
