The Faribault Falcon softball team received the No. 3 seed in the loaded Section 2 AAA tournament, which opens Thursday.

Seeds were not determined until Wednesday and all eight teams will go to Caswell Park in Mankato to play Thursday. That is the same venue as the state tournament, which will be June 9 and 10.

Faribault plays No. 6 seed Marshall at 5PM Thursday. On the same side of the bracket, No. 2 seed Mankato East faces No. 7 seed Waseca. The winners and losers of those games square off later in the evening.

If the Falcons are still alive, we hope to carry their Saturday contests in Mankato. The consolation bracket begins at noon Saturday and the winner's bracket at 2PM.

The Falcon baseball team joins three other teams in the section and goes to New Ulm to play two games Thursday. Both games will be broadcast on KDHL Radio 920 AM and www.kdhlradio.com.

The Falcons open with the Worthington Trojans. Our coverage begins at 4:45PM. Win or lose, Faribault will play at 7PM.

Action for the survivors continues on Saturday in New Ulm.

The other teams in the "First Four," which are the bottom four seeds in Section 2 AAA, are Mankato East and Waseca. The top three seeds wait to see who wins the "First Four" double elimination tournament.  The winner of the mini tournament becomes the No. 4 seed in the "Final Four" beginning Wednesday and goes to Mankato West to play.

Worthington is 12-8 and Faribault has a 2-18 record going into the tournament. No. 2 seed Marshall and No. 3 seed New Ulm will play in Marshall on June 1.
