Julie Fox and John Battles will stop by the KDHL Studio today to go over details about the Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner in Faribault. The dinner is prepared and served at the Faribault American Legion Post 43.

Mel and Jerry Hlady started the event at their restaurant (McNamara's) after losing some family members just before the holidays in 1986. Their children took it over for a couple of years and then moved out of state.

Since then, Fox and others have helped with organizing getting the food but the same method of getting volunteers exists. There have never been sign up sheets. People just show up to help prepare the meal, help serve the meal and help clean up after the meal is consumed.

In recent years meal delivery has grown tremendously.

If you would like to have a meal delivered on Thanksgiving, just phone 332-7357 by Wednesday, November 23. That is the Faribault Senior Center number.

The meal is served at the Legion between 11AM and 2PM and is served restaurant style with delivery of the meal to your table and everything.

The event is free, but cash, checks payable to the Faribault Foundation and/or nonperishable food item donations are welcome. Those donations go to the Faribault Area Food Shelf.

I hope you can listen at 9:30AM. If that time doesn't work for you, go to www.youtube.com/user/KDHLRadio and watch the program any time it's convenient.
