Faribault City Council Passes Administrator Contract

The Faribault City Council Tuesday night unanimously approved a City Administrator Contract for current City Engineer Timothy Murray.

Murray will officially become the City Administrator January 15, 2018.

Murray has been with the city for 20 years.

The six page Employment Agreement states the Administrator's salary shall be $135,172 effective January 15, 2018.

That section of the agreement also says, "Administrator shall receive a performance evaluation after six months of employment and annually thereafter.  Subject to successful performance evaluations, Administrator's salary shall increase to $137,822 after six months of employment and up to 2 steps after one year of employment."

That section goes on to say, "The administrator shall also receive any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) awarded to all other non-union employees going forward."

Another section of the agreement concerning At-Will Employment Relationship states, "The Administrator will serve the will of the city and will be subject to retention and/or dismissal at the discretion of the City.  The City may cancel this agreement at any time for any reason or no reason at all."

The  same section says, "Should Administrator be terminated without cause, Administrator shall receive severance from the City equal to four months of salary and benefits."

"Should Administrator decide to terminate his employment with the City, Administrator shall provide a minimum of 30 days notice of the intent to terminate."

The Employment Agreement also includes a section providing a monthly vehicle allowance.  "The City agrees to pay to Administrator, during the term of this agreement and in addition to other salary and benefits herein provided, the sum of $450 per month, as a vehicle allowance to be used to purchase, lease, or own, operate and maintain a vehicle.  Administrator shall be responsible for paying for liability, property damage, and comprehensive insurance coverage upon such vehicle and shall further be responsible for all expenses attendant to the purchase, operation, maintenance, repair, and regular replacement of said vehicle."

Murray told the City Council the approximately 40 days should give them enough time to find a replacement for his Engineer's position.

If not, he sees no problem doing both, if necessary, in the interim.
