The Faribault City Council listed as one of the areas they wanted to improve in 2018 communications with city residents.  In an effort toward that goal council members will be guests on our AM Minnesota program on a quarterly basis.  We start at the top with our first quarterly visit.  City Administrator Tim Murray and Mayor Kevin Voracek will be guests today at 9:30 a.m.

Murray just began his new job in mid-January but has been with the city for a couple decades.  He was the City Engineer prior to being named the City Administrator.  Murray believes that background and his knowledge of the community should serve him well.

Among the items we will discuss today is the increase in water rates.  The increase begins with the February 2018 billing for January water use.  Water rates include a flat, fixed service access charge and a charge for the volume of water used.  The monthly base rate is determined by water meter size.  According to city officials most residential meters use a 5/8" to 3/4" meter.

If you have a water meter that size the base rate is $6.68 a month.

The consumption rates vary from residential, commercial and industrial use.
