Orono came out in the second half and dominated control of the ball with Faribault getting very few offensive opportunities.

The go-ahead score came at the 51:20 mark after a throw in on a header by sophomore Spencer Overturf. In fact, Overturf tallied a hat trick, scoring all three goals for Orono.

The first was unassisted and the next two assisted by sophomore Christian Babo and Metro Player of the year senior Alex Kotula.

Abdullahi's goal was unassisted.

Faribault senior goaltender Adam Johannsen had some incredible saves in the contest.

Orono had six corner kicks, five in the second half, and Faribault just one.

The Spartans finished with 13 total shots, seven on goal, and the Falcons had six total shots and five on goal.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents Tony Langerud and Jason Krohn Faribault players of the match were Johannsen, Abdullahi, Jesus Pimentel and Fabian Macias.

A couple fellow members of the media covering the tournament told me after the match they thought Faribault had the fastest team they saw during the state tournament.

The Falcons certainly proved they belonged in the tournament and could compete with the best teams in Class A.

Before the Faribault match against Orono, the Breck Mustangs defeated the top seed St. Thomas Academy Cadets 2-0.

That means Orono and Breck square off for the state title at Husky Stadium on Thursday.

Faribault will play St. Thomas Academy for third place at Mahtomedi High School Thursday at 11AM.

The match will be on KDHL 920 AM with coverage beginning at 10:45AM. Brian and Julie Meier join Gordy Kosfeld on the call.
