The La Crescent Lancers entered Thursday's boys hockey game in Faribault with three wins but had a happy bus ride home following a 4-1 win.  Falcon Head Coach Dean Weasler told us before the game his team can't take anybody lightly.

It didn't appear that was the case but they didn't generate a lot of offensive opportunities when they were on the power play.  The first period was scoreless with Faribault collecting 13 shots and LaCrescent 7.

Final shots on goal were 34-18 in favor of Faribault.

The first goal of the game was scored by Lancers senior Josh Hackworth (5), assisted by senior Mason Holzer (2) on the power play 1:20 into the second period.

Junior Lucas Wieser (3) tallied another power play goal with an assist to Hackworth (6) at 13:32.  La Crescent was up 2-0.

With 1:14 to go in the second period Faribault senior Dylan O'Neil (3) scored on a power play in what the officials called an unassisted goal, but the Falcon coaches agreed with me that freshman Lucas Linnemann should have received an assist.

I don't know if Linnemann was trying to pass the puck to senior Dylan O'Neil in front of the net but he certainly got the La Crescent goalie to move to his left and then placed the puck at the top of the blue paint where O'Neil could backhand it into the net.  One of the coaches told me they will be giving Linnemann his third assist of the season.

In the third period Faribault went on a five minute power play thanks to a major penalty and disqualification of a La Crescent player for striking Faribault's top points scorer freshman Zach Siegert in the throat.  It was no accident.  He clearly went into the corner where Siegert and two Lancers were battling for the puck and hit him.

La Crescent effectively killed off that major.  Later Faribault would be on another power play.

The Falcons would score when sophomore Leighton Weasler came flying down the slot and veered to his right so the goalie would have to move left and delivered a perfect pass to O'Neil on the move down the slot behind him and Dylan buried the puck.

The officials waved off the goal saying the post came off it's moorings and it was still 2-1.

It appeared to me and some other fans the goal was scored before the goalpost got knocked off and I saw a few times when La Crescent junior goalie Gavin Christianson subtly knocked the post off to escape trouble.  One time in fact it wasn't so subtle as he shoved the post aside.

The final two La Crescent goals would be empty netters by juniors Alex Boudreau (6) and Jacob Hogan (2) in the final minute of the game.

The win improved the Lancers record to 4-12 and Faribault dropped to 8-11-2 on the season.

Faribault's next game is February 13th when they travel to Le Sueur.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game were the six seniors honored after the game.  Max McDonough, Adam Vos, Jaymeson Susen, Dylan O'Neil, Jon Becker-Anding and Brett Vogelsberg.
