When the Beatles wrote and performed the song "Long and Winding Road" they must have been making the trek from Faribault to Winona.  KDHL Radio will be making the trip Saturday to broadcast the Big Nine Conference game between the two teams who were co-champions of the league in 2013.  That was the last time both experienced a conference baseball championship.

Faribault has played very well since their season opening 12-3 loss on April 26 to Rochester Century and out of necessity they have done it on the road.  The Falcons have had just one home game this season and that was a 6-5 loss Tuesday to the defending Co-Champion Red Wing Wingers.  Anyone who follows the game of baseball knows pitching is key and when you have consistent pitching and hitting you will win more often than you lose.

The Falcons are 4-2 so far with a 4-1 road record.  Thursday they traveled to Rochester John Marshall and had a happy bus ride home following a 12-0 five inning win.

Senior Dylan Vargo threw a three hitter and Faribault collected 13 hits.

Senior Austin Rendler has been red hot and had another 2 hit day.  Vargo had 3 RBI with a double. Senior Dylan McEachran had 5 RBI and a double.  Senior Dylan O'Neil smacked two hits and senior Blake Borwege had a three hit day.  Senior Jake Louwagie had two hits.

Notice the common denominator here, they are all seniors.  13 of them on the Faribault team and with seniors comes a focus and realization this is your last go round in high school sports.

Vargo allowed 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks while throwing 53 pitches in his five innings, 36 for strikes.  He was 10 of 18 first pitch strikes while facing just three batters over the minimum.

Through the first six games Rendler has had nothing but multi-hit games with 15 hits and 12 RBI.

The Winona Winhawks have been very good thus far with just one loss and a 6-1 Big Nine Conference mark.  Faribault is 1-2 in league play.

The Winhawks are coming of a 12-2 win over Albert Lea Thursday and also scored an 8-4 win over Northfield Tuesday and 6-0 win over John Marshall Monday.  Winona went to Red Wing last Saturday and came home with a 1-0 win.

The Winhawks only loss was against Mankato East 8-1 in Winona.

We should have a great game Saturday on KDHL Radio 920 AM, www.kdhlradio.com and the best way to access the game static free is to download the FREE KDHL Radio app on your mobile devices in your app store.  While there also download the FREE Power 96 Faribault app because many of our Falcon broadcasts are on POWER 96 95.9 FM.
