Early this spring, members of the Faribault Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee visited third-grade classes at a number of elementary schools in Faribault. We talked with students about how their food is produced by farmers in the area. Part of the program is busing the students out to visit a real farm. The picture above shows third-grade students visiting the Ron and Kay Keller farm just east of Faribault. We have been fortunate to find farmers with livestock willing to host the students.

Animals are always a point of special interest with the students. When we visited the Keller farm is was about 35 degrees and windy. After being outside for a while it sure felt nice to go into the barn with the little pigs where it was 80 degrees! Ron explained to the students why we raise pigs in a barn. It is much more comfortable for them being inside a barn where it is warm!
